Family-Owned Since 1945

Shortly after graduating from college, Walter Lipsett founded Central Steel Supply with just $1,500 in cash and a family loan. Walter took ownership of the then-struggling company, taking it from the edge of bankruptcy and proving its viability to local financiers. He secured a $100,000 line of credit, which he used to restore and grow the business. This was a turning point in the company’s success, which quickly accelerated and made Central Steel Supply a leading steel distributor in the region.

While Central Steel faced several unique challenges over the years, our company has consistently adapted, transforming setbacks into new opportunities for growth at every turn.

Central Steel’s strategic location in Marlborough, Massachusetts, gives us easy access to business partners throughout New England. Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Rhode Island, as well as parts of New Hampshire and Southeast Maine. Our fleet operates between 6 am and 6 pm daily, assuring prompt and consistent deliveries to our clients throughout New England.

Many of our clients are in the construction industry and depend on a reliable, continual supply of quality steel materials. We also supply specialty steel materials for more diverse project requirements, including stair/railing fabrication, cell tower construction, and ATM machine assembly.

At over Eight million pounds, our robust inventory includes a vast array of steel materials and products (e.g., beams, plates, channels, angles, tubing, wire mesh, and much more) required for countless steel construction functions. Our facilities also fulfill a comprehensive suite of material processing functions for custom orders, including:​

  • High-definition plasma & oxy-fuel cutting that allows for precision plate processing.
  • Saw cutting and shearing equipment to provide exceptionally accurate cuts per each client’s exact product specifications.​
  • Drilling backed by CNC machinery capable of exact hole placement.​
  • Rebar bending and detailing to provide wholly customized rebar solutions with over 100 pre-programmed shapes​.

In 2006, we relocated our facilities to 85 Ames Street, Marlborough, Massachusetts, purchasing the property for $4.65 million. This move has allowed us to expand our operations and better serve our fast-growing customer base.
